CALDWELL, Idaho – The College of Idaho football team delivered a commanding performance on Saturday night, shutting out Simpson University (Calif.) 65-0 at Simplot Stadium. Simpson University, set to join the Frontier Conference next year, made their program debut in this game, marking their first-ever season and inaugural matchup.
The Yotes, now 2-0, showcased their dominance on both sides of the ball, accumulating 545 yards of total offense while limiting the Red Hawks (0-1) to just 155 yards.
Offensive Highlights:
- Caden Young led the ground attack, rushing for 106 yards on four carries, including a 60-yard touchdown run.
- Ryken EchoHawk contributed 89 rushing yards and a touchdown on seven carries, with a long run of 61 yards.
- Andy Peters was efficient through the air, completing 11 of 15 passes for 179 yards and three touchdowns, including a 40-yard strike to Jase Applebee, who finished with 79 yards on three receptions and two touchdowns.
- Jackson Stampfli added two rushing touchdowns, while Hunter Gilbert chipped in with 37 rushing yards and a score.
Defensive Standouts:
- The Yotes' defense was relentless, allowing just 96 rushing yards and 59 passing yards. They recorded five tackles for loss, including a 9-yard sack by Ray Holes.
- Matthew Iwamizu led the team with five total tackles, including 1.5 tackles for loss.
- Tyler Halford also made his presence felt with 1.5 tackles for loss, while Lucas Midgett and Holes each added a sack.
- The defense forced one turnover, recovering a fumble.
College of Idaho's dominance was evident across the board, with the team averaging 9.6 yards per play and converting on 4 of 9 third downs. They also scored on six of their seven red-zone opportunities and held Simpson to just 2.7 yards per play.
