CALDWELL, Idaho – The College of Idaho welcomed fellow Cascade Collegiate Conference teams – Bushnell, Corban, Southern Oregon and Northwest to the new College of Idaho beach volleyball courts for a two-day round-robin tournament that got underway on Saturday. Corban comes to town ranked No. 2, Southern Oregon and College of Idaho are receiving votes in the latest national poll.
For College of Idaho, the day saw the host Yotes drop a narrow 3-2 decision to the nationally-ranked Warriors of Corban. The contest saw the No. 4 pairs of Liza Montalbo and Emily Vandenberg picked up their team-best fourth win of the season with a 21-17, 21-10. Next, the No. 1 pair of Haley McUne and Sydney Dews put the host Yotes ahead with a 21-17, 19-21, 15-5 win.
Corban came back to win the matchups at No. 5 and No. 3 pairs to secure the victory.
The second match of the day saw College of Idaho take on Southern Oregon for the third time in the inaugural season. The Raiders went on to defeat the Yotes by a 4-1 margin. The sole victory for the day came when McUne and Dews picked up a 21-18, 21-15 win at No. 1 pairs. The win matches Montalbo and Vandenberg on the season with four wins apiece.
Next, on Saturday, College of Idaho will host Bushnell at noon. Prior to the match, the Yotes will honor its seniors.
