Lightning Delay Couldn’t Spark Yotes

CALDWELL, Idaho – The College of Idaho dropped a pair of games against the Oregon Tech Owls. The first game was a close affair with the Owls able to come away with a 3-2 win while Owls comfortably handled the Yotes 8-3 in the lightning delayed nightcap.

The two defenses forced the first two innings to be errorless before a Mathew Ortiz single to center field allowed runner on third Brady Culp to score.The Owls capitalized on a swinging third strike error that allowed Julien Jones who ran to first and reached on an error by Matthew Iwamizu who overthrew first which allowed the base runner Matthew Ortiz to make it from second to home. The Yotes responded in the third with a Darren smith single up the middle that allowed Jordan Kelly and Kris Kirpatrick to score from third base and second base respectively. Neither team would score until the top of the 8th when a Keanu Mizut single down right field allowed for Kyle Norton to score from second base.

Kris Kirkpatrick had the hot bat. He went three for three hits on the day. Nick Eliason had a solid game from the mound. He struck out seven Owls in eight innings pitched, facing 35 batters. Owls pitcher Patrick Arman also had a quality game striking out seven of the 29 Yotes faced in his win.
CI 3, OIT 8

The Owls started the second game hot. Keanu Mizuta singled to right field allowing Tyler Horner to score from second. The Yotes tied it up in the bottom of the third with a Jack Ingraham single to left field that allowed Brayden Macy to score from third. The Owls scored four in the fourth prior to the one hour lightning delay at the bottom of the fifth. The Yotes would go on to fall 8-3.

The Yotes got nine hits in the contest, led by Alex McFarland. Jack Ingraham, Trevor Watkins, Darren Smith, Chandler Stocking, and Tucker Seabrough also earned hits in the contest. The Owls managed to get 13 hits in the night cap. Bronson Chapple managed to strike out seven Yotes in 4.2 innings.

The Yotes and Owls continue the series tomorrow at 11am MT at Wolfe Field in Caldwell.
