CALDWELL, Idaho – The College of Idaho baseball team split a doubleheader with Bushnell on Saturday. The Yotes took game one by an 8-5 margin before falling in the nightcap, 13-11.
Game one saw the Beacons score the first five runs of the game before the Yotes scored the next eight, including a four-run eighth inning. College of Idaho rallied to tie it at five in the eighth before scoring four in the eighth on its way to the 8-5 win. In the eighth,
Austin Moon and
Matthew Iwamizu each hit a home run. In the win,
Alex McFarland-Smith,
Kris Kirkpatrick,
Darren Smith and Iwamizu each had two hits with
Ben Gaff and Moon picking up a pair of RBI.
Colby Durski got the final two outs of the eighth for the win and
Dawson Cummins pitched a scoreless ninth to get the save.
Game two saw College of Idaho in the lead thru the first six innings as they built a 12-4 lead on the Beacons. Bushnell scored five in the seventh, three more in the eighth and another in the ninth for a 13-11 win.
Five-different Yotes had multiple hits including
Ben Gaff,
Jack Ingraham, Alex-McFarland-Smith,
Kris Kirkpatrick and
Bryan Ebe to pace a 15-hit attack. Kirkpatrick and
Jordan Kelly each had three RBI. The Yotes third pitcher of the contest,
Jackson Cummins was handed the loss after a two-inning stint.
The two teams wrap up the weekend series with another doubleheader on Sunday at 11 a.m.
