CALDWELL, Idaho – The College of Idaho men's and women's track and field teams split its competition on the weekend between the EOU Lew Thorne Invite and the 2024 Riverfront Invitational and Multis.
Friday's action saw College of Idaho take part in the 2024 Riverfront Invitational and Multis. One of the highlights of the day was the first-place performance of
Ellyse Tingelstad in the 5,000m run. In her first action of the spring, the Joseph, Ore. native clocked a time of 17.09.34. The time of 17:09.34 is a NAIA "A" qualifying mark and the second fastest time in the NAIA for 2024. Her teammates in the distance medley relay –
Kahea Figueira,
Charlotte Bowman,
Kylee Quinton and
Abbey Shirts – posted a runner-up time of 12:07.92 which is also a NAIA "A" qualifying time and the second fastest in the NAIA on the 2024 season.
On the men's side,
Elias Everist was third in the 5,000m where he crossed the line in a PR of 14:59.68 en route to a third-place finish where he was just shy of a NAIA "B" qualifying mark.
At the EOU Lew Thorne Invite, on the men's side, freshman
Eli Hayes set a new school record with his first jump of 45-6.5 / 13.88m in the triple jump en route to a first-place finish. He also took third in the high jump along with
CJ Mann as they each cleared 5-8.75 (1.75m).
Carson Fox took third in the pole vault with a clearance of 13-9.25 (4.20m).
Two-sport athletes
Keenan Blair and
Tanner Sackman took second (14.34m / 47-0.75) and third (13.91m / 45-7.75), respectively in the shot put. Another set of two-sport athletes,
Tanner Macy and
Hunter Gilbert were one-two in the 200m dash with times of 23.31 and 23.54 and fourth in the 60m dash with identical times of 7.28.
Zach Curtsinger took home second-place honors with a jump of 20-10.75 / 6.37m in the long jump and in the 400m dash with a time of 52.98.
The Yotes put the finishing touches on the day with a EOU Fieldhouse record as the 4x400m relay team of
Zach Curtsinger,
CJ Mann,
Aaron Seitz and
Oclan Ryan clocked a winning time of 3:37.88.
On the women's side,
Mattie Shirts won the high jump (1.50m / 4-11) and triple jump (10.61m / 34-9.75). The Yotes swept the top two spots in the shot put with
Star Herron and
Taylor Durfey recording throws of 42-6.25 (12.96m) and 40-1.5 (12.23m), respectively.
On the track,
Laken Wolf was third in the 200, crossing the finish line in 28.33. Wolf, Shirts,
Ruby Stewart and Gracyee Litton in a 4x400-meter relay winning time of 4:24.75.
In other field events,
Addison Trent posted a jump of (5.11m / 16-9.25) on her final leap for a third-place finish.
Next, College of Idaho will travel to the Whitworth Invitational on Friday, Feb. 9 in Spokane, Washington.
