Olympia, Wash. – Host Evergreen spoiled a three-game winning streak for the College of Idaho women's basketball team with a 61-45 win on Friday evening.
The Yotes (8-17, 8-11 CCC) held a 20-17 lead after the first 10 minutes until a stifling defensive effort by the host Geoducks saw College of Idaho limited to five second quarter points.
The defensive efforts in the second quarter put host Evergreen ahead 32-25 at half as College of Idaho was held scoreless over the last 5:28 of the opening half on its way to the win. The victory raises the record for Evergreen to 7-14 overall and 7-12 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference.
College of Idaho was led by Kylie Waltermeyer, who had 15 points and Brooke Beresford added 14 rebounds in the contest.
Evergreen landed three players in double figures as Sydney Vanness scored a game-high 19. Jalyn Sackrider had a double double with 15 points and 10 rebounds and Allison Deberry had 11 points and six assists.
Down seven at half, 32-25, College of Idaho got the deficit down to as little as three, 48-45, in the final quarter with 5:40 left to play before the host Geoducks scored the final 13 points of the game on its way to the victory.
Next, College of Idaho will face Northwest on Saturday at 3 p.m. (PST)/4 p.m. (MT) in Kirkland.
