SURPRISE, Ariz. - The College of Idaho baseball team dropped a pair of games to OUAZ on Thursday, falling in game one by a score of 6-5, and 11--0 in the second game.
Game One
The Yotes in the first game of the series saw a multi-hit game from
Alex McFarland-Smith, who went 2-4 in the loss. The Yotes also saw a multi-RBI game from
Jordan Kelly, who would go 1-3 with a pair of runs batted in.
The Yotes got on the board early, as
Matthew Iwamizu drove in a run on a sacrifice fly to make the game 1-0 in the top of the second inning. The Spirit of OUAZ would answer back strong, scoring five unanswered over the third and fourth innings on a pair of 2 RBI hits.
The Yotes would come back and answer in the fifth, as
Chandler Stocking singled which drove in
Jack Ingraham, followed by a fielding error that would score Stocking and
Ben Gaff, making the game 5-4 in favor of OUAZ. The Yotes would tie the game in the seventh, as Kelly would drive in a run on a sac fly. OUAZ would record a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the eighth to give them the win.Â
Gino McDuffie was tabbed with the loss, pitching 3.1 innings and giving up five earned. Connor Wilson earned win, only allowing two runs and striking out three.
Game Two
The Yotes in game two saw the bats go quiet, but saw hits from
Jace Mahlke,
Austin Moon, and
Jordan Kelly. The Spirit would see multiple hits from five out of the nine batters in the lineup on the way to a 13 hit performance.
The Spirit would do most of their damage in the third inning, as nine runs would come across to score. Five of the nine runs in the inning came off of RBI singles, with one extra base hit RBI coming off of a double. In the fifth inning, Sergio Alfaro drove in two runs on a single to cap off the scoring for the Spirit.
Dawson Cummins was tabbed with the loss, pitching two and a third innings while giving up nine earned runs. Evan Massie earned the win, pitching six innings and only allowing one hit.
The Yotes and Spirit will finish the series on Saturday at 11 a.m.
