Box Score SURPRISE, Ariz. - The College of Idaho baseball team fell in the series finale to OUAZ on Saturday, dropping the game against the Spirit by a score of 16-8.
The Yotes were paced on offense by multi-hit performances from
Kris Kirkpatrick and
Jordan Kelly. The squad also saw multi-RBI games from Kirkpatrick and
Darren Smith.
The first of Kirkpatrick's RBI's on the day came in the first inning on a two-out triple that scored
Alex McFarland-Smith. The Spirit would tie the game in the bottom of the first as it was 1-1. The Spirit would then tally on two more runs on a two-out single, as OUAZ took a two run lead after two innings of play.
The Yotes would answer back in the third as a bases loaded walk would score a run, and Smith would record his bases loaded double, which cleared the bases and gave the Yotes a two-run lead. The Yotes would then tack on three more in the fifth off an error and hits by
Austin Moon and
Jace Mahlke, as the Yotes would retake the lead at 8-5.
Over the next two innings, the Spirit would record nine unanswered runs, capped off by a pair of two-out extra base hits as the Spirit would eventually clinch the series sweep.
Oliver Massie was tabbed with the loss, pitching two-tenths of an inning and giving up seven runs. Trey Trimble earned the win, nearly pitching five innings in relief and not allowing a run.
The Yotes will be back in action for the 2024 home opener against Westcliff next weekend.
