LA GRANDE, Ore. — The College of Idaho track and field teams delivered an impressive start to the indoor season at the Purple and Blue Duel hosted by Eastern Oregon University on Saturday.
Junior Star Herron headlined the meet with a dominant performance in the women's weight throw, achieving a mark of 16.81 meters (55 feet, 2 inches) to secure the first NAIA provisional standard of the season. Herron also placed second in the shot put with a throw of 11.82 meters.
Women's Highlights:
- Charlotte Bowman claimed victory in the 60-meter dash with a personal-best time of 7.70 seconds and took first in the long jump with a leap of 5.04 meters.
- Kiriann Johnson won the pole vault, clearing 3.20 meters in her collegiate debut.
- Alexis Thrall ran 27.60 seconds in the 200 meters, earning third place.
- Mattie Shirts led the Yotes in the triple jump, winning with a mark of 10.59 meters, while also finishing second in the high jump with a clearance of 1.50 meters.
- The women's 4x400-meter relay team of Bowman, Stella Gray, Thrall, and Nova Parker clocked a 4:18.31 to place second.
Men's Highlights:
- Chris Shakespeare dazzled in his debut, winning the 60-meter dash in 6.91 seconds and the 200 meters in 23.06 seconds, both personal bests. He improved by over a tenth of a second from prelims to finals in the 60m.
- Eli Hayes took first place in the triple jump with a mark of 13.40 meters and added a second-place finish in the long jump at 6.28 meters.
- Keenan Blair achieved a personal record of 15.27 meters in the shot put, earning second place, and secured third in the weight throw with a toss of 15.17 meters.
- Logan Prince cleared 1.91 meters in the high jump, taking second place, and added a fourth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 6.07 meters.
- Trevor Treat clocked 8.71 seconds to win the men's 60-meter hurdles and added a fifth-place effort in the long jump with a personal-best mark of 6.05 meters.
The Yotes showcased depth and versatility across all events as they prepare for a competitive indoor season ahead.
