Ashland, Ore. – Despite a strong defensive effort, the College of Idaho Yotes (5-3-1, 3-3-0) fell 1-0 to Southern Oregon (8-2-1, 5-0-1) in a Cascade Collegiate Conference matchup on October 5 at Raider Stadium. A late penalty kick conceded by a foul by
Matej Hron in the 87th minute and converted by Southern Oregon's Kaito Nakayama proved to be the only difference in a tightly contested game.
The Yotes kept pace with Southern Oregon throughout the match, outshooting the Raiders 12-10, with four of those shots on target.
Pierre Fabre and
Hugo Gutierrez were particularly active on offense, each tallying multiple shots on goal, but they were denied by Southern Oregon goalkeeper Casey Ruvolo, who recorded four saves.
On the other side, Yotes' goalkeeper Hron had two key saves, keeping his team in the game until the late penalty decided the outcome.
Both teams had their share of fouls, with College of Idaho committing 11 and Southern Oregon 15. The Yotes earned three corner kicks but were unable to capitalize on the opportunities.
The Yotes will look to bounce back in their next match as they host Carroll College at Simplot Stadium in Caldwell, Idaho. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on Friday, October 11.
