CALDWELL, Idaho – The College of Idaho men's and women's track and field teams began their 2024 season at the 2024 Stacy Dragila Open on the campus of Idaho State University.
On the women's side,
Abbey Shirts was second overall and the top collegiate finisher to begin her senior season with a time of 5:06.18 in the mile for a NAIA "B" qualifying mark. Teammate
Kahea Figueira was seventh overall in a career-best time of 5:14.46.
Molly Connor was 10
th in the 3000m run with a time of 10:59.97.
In the field events,
Mattie Shirts in her college debut was third in the triple jump with a leap of 35-3 (10.74m) – just eight centimeters from the top five all-time in program history.
Star Herron was fifth in the weight throw with a toss of 50-10.75 (15.51m) and in the shot put with a toss of 40-11 (12.47m). Teammate
Taylor Durfey was ninth in the shot put with a heave of 38-7.5 (11.77m) and 10
th in the weight with a throw of 45-5 (13.84m).
On the men's side,
Elias Everist led the College of Idaho men's track and field team with a NAIA "B" qualifying time in the 3,000m run (8:44.50) on his way to a sixth-place finish.
In the field events,
Eli Hayes was second in his Yotes debut in the triple jump with a leap of 44-3.25 (13.49m). The jump by Hayes is the second best mark in program history. Another newcomer
Keenan Blair, who had a promising debut with a toss of 47-11.25 (14.61m) in the shot en route to eighth place.
The Yotes also picked up a pair of ninth-place finishes as
Amari Evans recorded a jump of 20-10 (6.35m) in the long jump and
Carson Fox in the pole vault with a clearance of 13-9.25 (4.20m). Plus,
Tanner Sackman took 10
th in the weight throw of 40-6 (10.78m).
