CALDWELL, Idaho – The No. 3 College of Idaho men's basketball team was paced by the fourth double double of the season by
Jake O'Neil, who had 12 points and 10 rebounds in a 108-70 rout of Northwest University on Friday night.
O'Neil was not a one-man show as 14 of the 15 Yotes, who suited up broke into the scoring ledger and he had four teammates join him with double-digit scoring.
Drew Wyman knocked down a season-high six 3-pointers on his way to 22 points,
Dougie Peoples came off the bench to score a season-high 17,
Straton Rogers and
Johnny Radford each had 10.
Caden Handran and
Samaje Morgan had nine and seven assists, respectively. The win is the 10th straight for College of Idaho, who raised their record to 15-2 and remain at the top of the CCC with a 10-1 mark.
Northwest was led by O'Shae Barquet, who had 12 points and Lewis Pope added 11 in the loss.
With the game tied at 18 and for the second time in the contest, Peoples knocked down his first of two 3-pointers with 9:37 left in the opening half to put the Yotes ahead for the rest of the contest. The 3-pointer sparked College of Idaho, who scored 21 of the next 32 points on its way to the win. Furthermore, a decisive 18-5 run to end the first 20 minutes spoiled any hopes of a comeback as College of Idaho went into the break with a 52-29 lead.
At the break, College of Idaho shot 50% (20-for-40) from the field and held Northwest to 32.3% (10-for-31). The first half saw the Yotes outscore the Eagles, 26-12 in points in the paint, 11-2 in points off turnovers and 12-0 on second-chance points.
When Wyman hit his sixth 3-pointer of the game, College of Idaho pushed the advantage to 30 points on its way to its biggest lead of 46 in the win.
The 108 points are a season-high for College of Idaho, which has reached the century mark on four occasions during the season. The 38-point margin of victory is the second highest on the season for the Yotes.
Next, College of Idaho will host Evergreen State on Saturday at 5 p.m. at the J.A. Albertson Activity Center.
