CALDWELL, Idaho - The College of Idaho men's soccer team remained undefeated in conference play following a physical win against Southern Oregon at home, 1-0.
The defense was one of the highlights in the Yotes victory, as reigning CCC Defensive Player of the Week
Tom Baynard-Smith was impressive once again, recording five saves in the win, his fourth clean sheet of the year, and fifth consecutive clean sheet for the Yotes.
Emil Powles also recorded a defensive save, preventing the best look from the Raiders from going into the back of the net.
The first half saw the Raiders (7-2) fire off 10 shots compared to the Yotes three shots. But in the second half, the Yotes (6-1-1) were able to put pressure on the Raiders defense, recording five shots in the second frame. In the 78th minute,
Grant Embree found the ball off the head of
Emil Powles in the box, heading it past Casey Ruvolo for the goal, the only goal of the contest.
The physical bout ended with the Raiders outshooting the Yotes by a total of 13-8, as the Yotes had just three shots on goal.
The Yotes will return to Simplot Stadium to end homecoming weekend tomorrow, hosting Oregon Tech with kickoff slated for 5:30 p.m.
