Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Six Point Day for Hornung Leads Yotes to Victory in Home Opener

CALDWELL, Idaho - The College of Idaho men's soccer team saw a successful opener to their 2023 home campaign, defeating Walla Walla by a score of 9-0 on Friday.

The Yotes dominated the time of possession, controlling the ball in the opposing half for a majority of the contest. The Yotes defense was able to prevent the Wolves from advancing into Yotes territory for most of the first half.

On the offensive side of the ball, Eric Hornung was able to bury the first goal of the contest in the 38th minute, coming off an assist from Emil Powles. Powles would then add his name to the score sheet, scoring on a penalty kick following a Walla Walla foul inside the box while going for a loose ball. The Yotes would end the first half up 2-0, registering 16 shots in the opening frame.

Jorge Fernandez wasted no time in the second half, scoring his fourth of the season just 33 seconds into the half. Pol Romero would contribute to the score sheet in the 59th minute, scoring off a feed from Hornung making it 5-0 in favor of the College of Idaho.

Fernandez would add to his total less than a minute after Romero scored, adding to his team high goal count, now sitting at five this season. In the 66th minute, freshman Krew Christensen scored his first goal as a member of the College of Idaho, coming off an assist by Joao Bastos. In the 74th minute of play, Hornung registered his second of the game, coming off a feed from Grant Embree. The two goals from Eric Hornung went along with two assists, good for six points on the day.

The Yotes, through six games, are outscoring opponents 20-5 and are averaging 16 shots per game.

The Yotes will return to Simplot Stadium on Sunday, the second of a four game homestand, against Rocky Mountain, with kickoff slated for 11 a.m.
