KIRKLAND, Wash. - The College of Idaho men's soccer program continued their winning ways on Saturday, taking down the Northwest Eagles on the road by a score of 4-0.
Tom Baynard-Smith once again recorded a clean sheet, his second in as many games this season, stopping five shots en route to the Yotes win. The Yotes defense was able to control the Eagle offense, limiting them to just five shots on goal compared to 11 shots on goal for the Yote offense.
Jorge Fernandez scored the opening goal of the game to increase his team lead in his first season as a Yote, scoring in the 29th minute off an assist from
Joao Bastos, making it 1-0. Bastos was able to score one of his own just a few minutes later, this time off a feed from
Hugo Gutierrez and
Bernardo Zanatta, as the Yotes were able to take a 2-0 lead heading into the halftime break.
Grant Embree was able to score his first goal in a College of Idaho uniform in the 68th minute, scoring off an assist from
Hugo Guevara. Later in the game, courtesy of a foul inside the penalty area,
Eric Hornung buried the ball in the back of the net for his first of the season, after a remarkable campagin during his freshman season.
The Yotes will return home next week, playing in their home opener Friday against Walla Walla.
