OLYMPIA, Wash. - Following a near two week break, the College of Idaho men's soccer program was back in action on Friday afternoon, defeating Evergreen State by a score of 2-0 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference opener.
Friday's match saw plenty of scoring chances from both sides, as
Tom Baynard-Smith recorded a clean sheet in his season debut, recording four saves in the Yotes win. TESC keeper Brendan Gribek recorded five saves for the Geoducks.
The scoring for the Yotes got started later in the first half thanks to a Geoduck foul inside the penalty area, leading to
Emil Powles delivering the first goal of the game on a penalty kick. Powles, who was the Yotes primary penalty taker last season, delivered his first goal of the season in the 35th minute of play to give the Yotes a 1-0 lead.
With time winding down in the game,
Pol Romero found the ball and delivered, scoring his first goal in a College of Idaho uniform, giving the squad the 2-0 lead that would hold to be the final.
The Yotes will return to the pitch to continue CCC play tomorrow in Kirkland when they take on the Northwest Eagles at 1:30 p.m.
