REDDING, Calif. - The Yotes ended the opening weekend of the season down in Redding facing off against Simpson, drawing with the Redhawks by a score of 2-2.
Jorge Fernandez was a force on offense for the Yotes on Sunday, firing off five shots with each shot being recorded as a shot on goal. Fernandez was able to put one past the Simpson keeper just seven minutes into the game as the Yotes were able to take a 1-0 lead, which they would eventually hold into the halftime break.
Two minutes in to the second half, Simpson would draw a foul inside the opposing box, and Michel Hampe would convert on the penalty kick to tie the game at 1-1. In the 80th minute,
J.J. Osuna found himself with a scoring chance and scored his first goal of the year to give the Yotes the lead back with just over 10 minutes to play. In the 85th minute, Stefano Stabel was able to put the ball past the Yotes keeper to tie the game back up once again, which would hold to be the final score.Â
Ben Anderson was able to record four saves in the contest, while Simpson's Daniel Morales recorded six saves in the draw.
The Yotes will return to the pitch Friday night in Walla Walla against Whitman at 5 p.m.
