La Grande, Ore. - The first day of the 2023 Cascade Collegiate Conference Track & Field Championships is complete and the College of Idaho men's track and field team was led by a first-place finish by
Lane Maher in the 110m hurdles.
After the first day, the men are in fifth with 38 points and host Eastern Oregon leads the team race with 115 points.
Maher set a championship record, clocking a NAIA "A" qualifying mark of 14.38 to win the title. The performance by Maher broke his 2022 championship record by two hundredths of a second. He is the program's first two-time champion. Assistant Athletic Director and former head track and field coach Austin Basterrechea won a title in 2014.
Daniel Butler was second in the 1500m (3:55.01) and
Braden Heath took fourth in the 3,000m steeplechase (9:28.15). The third and fourth all-conference selection on the opening day was
Hayden Bostrom and
Elias Everist, who finished second (31:30.30) and third (31:43.68), respectively in the 10,000m. The Yotes also picked up team points with a sixth-place finish by
Will Kracaw and seventh-place finish by
Cyress Wilson.
In the field events, the men also picked up points from
Bryan St. Clair and
Zach Curtsinger were fifth (22-4.25) and seventh (21-10.75), respectively.
Tanner Sackman was seventh in the hammer with a toss of 158-1 (48.18m) and
Johan Cobena was eighth in the shot put with a toss of 43-8.5 (13.32m).
The 4x100m team -
Hunter Gilbert,
Lane Maher,
Keegan Croteau and Dorian Hardin – clocked a time of 42.46 to finish fourth.
