KEIZER, Ore. - The Yotes used a dominant pitching performance in game one against Corban to take the first game of the doubleheader, followed by a loss in game two, splitting Saturday by scores of a 3-2 win and a 14-4 loss.
Game One
Nick Eliason continued his dominant stretch during the latter half of the season, following up a victory over LCSC with a masterful performance on the mound against Corban. Eliason would pitch 8.2 innings on the mound, only allowing four hits and two earned runs while striking out nine batters.
The Yote offense was led by multi-hit games from
Ben Gaff and
Jake Denison, as Denison was only one of two Yotes to drive in a run. Corban got the scoring started early, as Ryan Clay homered in the first inning as the Warriors jumped out to an early one run lead. The first Yote run of the game came in the second as
Ben Gaff scored followed a steal of second base by Denison.
Then in the seventh, Denison drove in a run on a single as Gaff would come around to score again, making the game 2-1 in favor of the College of Idaho.
Ben Hansen would knock in another run in the seventh on an RBI single up the middle, which scored Denison. The Warriors would get a run back, as Brad Pellkofer tripled to center field in the ninth, but the Warriors rally would fall short, with the game ending 3-2.
Eliason earned the win, while Nate Martin earned the loss, with
Colby Durski recording his second save of the season.
Game Two
The second game saw
Alex McFarland-Smith record a multi-hit game, knocking three hits in a game when the Yotes only tallied five hits. Corban would get the scoring started right off the bat on a single up the middle in the second inning. The Yotes would rattle off four straight runs, as
Jonah Hultberg drove in a run on a single through the right side.
Skyler Sadora drove in a run on an RBI double, and McFarland-Smith doubled to right field.
Ben Hansen was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, driving in the fourth run.
The Warriors would then go on a run of 13 straight runs over the course of the next three innings to take a 14-4 lead, which they would hold to be the final.
Kirby Robertson was tabbed with the game two loss, as his record dropped to 6-3. Bryce Bridge saw his record improve to 3-1, allowing five hits and striking out three.
The Yotes and Warriors will be back in action tomorrow for the finale of the weekend set.
