KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - The College of Idaho put a nine-game win streak on the line, travelling to Klamath Falls to take on Oregon Tech in a battle of the top two teams in the conference, dropping both of Saturday's games by scores of 12-7 and 15-11.
Game One
The Yotes were led by three-hit performances by
Jonah Hultberg and
Jake Denison, as well as two-hit performances from
Tristen Garland and
Dillon Danner. The Owls got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning on a triple and a double by Matt Ortiz. The Yotes were able to answer in the second as Denison singled to right-center field which scored
Kris Kirkpatrick.
Dillon Danner singled in the fourth inning which scored
Ben Gaff.
The Owls offense proved to be a challenge for the Yotes, as they were able to put up 12 runs in the first four innings of the game. The bulk of the Yotes offense came late, scoring five runs over the final four innings. Garland drove in a run on a single in the sixth inning. Hultberg then drove in four runs over the sixth and eighth innings on a double and a single, finishing the game with four RBI's.
Nate Vidlak saw his record drop in the loss, going 3.2 innings in the game. Patrick Arman's record improved to 5-1, pitching seven innings and striking out five Yote batters.
Game Two
The College of Idaho had three-hit games from Garland, Hultberg, as well as
Kris Kirkpatrick, as well as another two-hit performance from
Dillon Danner. The Yotes struck early, as
Ben Gaff tripled to right-center field with the bases loaded, scoring
Alex McFarland-Smith, Hultberg, and Garland. Gaff would come around to score on a wild pitch later in the inning. The Owl offense was once again stifling early, notching 10 runs in the first inning.
In the second inning,
Skyler Sadora reached base on a fielder's choice which scored
Dillon Danner. Hultberg added an RBI single himself in the third, scoring Danner and Kirkpatrick. Sadora would double in the fifth which scored a pair of runs. The final Yote runs of the game would come on a Denison fielder's choice and a fielder's choice from
Dillon Danner.
Kirby Robertson was tabbed with the loss in game two, his record dropping to 3-2. Braeden Bellum saw his record improve to 2-0 in the win, pitching four innings and striking out three.
The Yotes and Owls are back in action tomorrow in Klamath Falls to round out the weekend.
