PORTLAND, Ore. – College of Idaho women's basketball senior
Lexi Mitchell grabbed seven rebounds on her way to becoming the all-time leader in program history in rebounds with 720. She moved past Christon Vander Esch, who grabbed 717 from 2006-09.
Mitchell went on to score 16 points as four Yotes scored in double figures in a 77-65 win over Multnomah on Saturday afternoon. It was the fifth time in six games that Mitchell has scored in double figures.
"It was great to be able to celebrate Lexi becoming the all-time leading rebounder here at C of I," said College of Idaho head coach Janis Beal. "She works extremely hard and is very deserving of this distinction."
She was joined in double figures by
Mia Austin and
Kenadee French, who each scored a game-high 18 and
Bryanna Graham added 13. French has hit a 3-pointer in the last five games and Graham has scored in double figures in the last three games.
Sienna Riggle grabbed 13 rebounds to go along with seven points in the win. The win puts College of Idaho at 13-10 overall and 8-9 in the Cascade Collegiate Conference.
Host Multnomah (5-19 overall, 3-15 CCC) had three in double figures in the loss. Alaygza Portis scored a team-best 16 points. She was joined in double digits by Kylee Stephens and Dalila Rincan, who had 13 and 12 points, respectively.
"I am proud of the girls effort to come on the road and get two wins," said Beal. "A big part of that was making the extra pass to get great shots. We had big time contributions from a lot of different players."
College of Idaho quickly erased a 4-0 deficit to begin the game, scoring nine straight points to take a 9-4 lead. In the run, Mitchell grabbed the record-breaking rebound on a missed layup by Stephens with 3:26 left in the opening quarter. With the game tied at 16 and for the fourth time in the contest, Austin hit her first of six 3-pointers to put the Yotes back in front.
The visitors remained in the lead until a 9-3 spurt by the Lions tied the game at 25 and again, C of I had answer with a 3-pointer and this time, it was
Kenadee French with the triple. The two teams were tied two more times to start the second half but an 8-0 spurt by the visitors put College of Idaho ahead 41-33 with 4:44 left in the third quarter and for the rest of the contest. A 10-2 run to start the fourth quarter by the Yotes pushed the lead to double digits for the remainder of the game.
Next, College of Idaho will play its third game in five days when they host Eastern Oregon University on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. at the JAAC.
