KIRKLAND, Washington – The No. 1 College of Idaho men's basketball team extended its winning streak to 26 games with an 86-57 win over host Northwest on Friday evening.
College of Idaho (26-1, 21-0 CCC) were paced by five players in double figures, including a double double from
Tyler Robinett (14 points, 11 rebounds). He was joined in double figures by
Johnny Radford, who had a game-high 18 on the strength of four 3-pointers. Radford went 4-for-4 from beyond the 3-point line and 6-for-6 from the charity stripe on the night. Also in double figures were
Drew Wyman (12 points),
Samaje Morgan (12 points) and
Charles Elzie (11 points).
Northwest (9-18, 6-15 CCC) was led by a 17-point night from Coa Chatman, who made three 3-pointers and was 6-for-17 from the field. Chatman was joined in double figures by AJ Chappell, who added 12 in the loss.
The Yotes jumped out to an 11-4 lead to start the game as they led from start to finish on its way to extend the nation's longest winning streak in men's college basketball. The host Eagles withstood the early onslaught and got the deficit down to two, 27-25 with 6:47 left in the opening half. College of Idaho answered the threat and managed to go into the half with an eight-point lead at the break, 42-34.
The second half saw the Eagles get the deficit to six, 47-41 with 15:16 left to play and Yotes spoiled the comeback hopes with nine unanswered points on its way to a double-figure lead for the remainder of the game. After shooting 50% from the field in the first half, College of Idaho shot 48.4% (15 of 31) from the field in the second 20 minutes.
In the win, College of Idaho did a bulk of its damage in two places – at the free-throw line where they made 13 of 16 for the game compared to an 0-for-2 effort by Northwest and from behind the 3-point line where they made 11 of 22 for 50% compared to 7 of 33 for 21.2% for the Eagles.
Next, College of Idaho will look to become the second program to finish Cascade Collegiate Conference play undefeated with a 5 p.m. (PT)/6 p.m. (MT) contest against Evergreen. Northwest will host Eastern Oregon at the same time.
