NAMPA, Idaho - The College of Idaho baseball team saw their eight game win streak come to a halt on Friday, as the Northwest Nazarene Nighthawks took down the Yotes by a final of 5-2 on Friday, as both teams have won a game in the weekend series.
The Yotes offense got started early, striking in the first inning on a
Jonah Hultberg double which scored
Tristen Garland. The Nighthawks were able to answer right back, tallying three runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Matthew Reynolds got NNU's offense going with a single up the middle driving in a run. That was followed by Kyle Payne singling through the left side, driving in a pair, as NNU was able to take a 3-1 lead after the first inning of play.
The Nighthawks would score again in the bottom of the third inning as Drew Deal doubled down the left field line, scoring Tyler Best, giving NNU a 4-1 lead. The Yotes weren't able to answer back until the top of the seventh, when Hultberg tallied another RBI, singling through the left side scoring Garland. NNU would then answer right back as Best drove in a run, making the score 5-2.
The Yotes bats were led by
Jonah Hultberg, going 3-5 on the day with the two RBI's. Garland and
Ben Gaff also recorded multiple hits in the contest, each going 2-4.
Kris Kirkpatrick contributed to the hit total, recording a hit in his lone plate appearance as a pinch hitter.
The Nighthawks pitching staff held the Yotes with only one hit for a majority of the game while also striking out 15 in the process. Nathan Galusha was tabbed with the win, his first of the year, while
Luke Brewer's record on the season drops to 1-1 in the loss.
The two teams will be back in action for a Saturday doubleheader taking place at Wolfe Field in Caldwell tomorrow.
