College of Idaho Men's Basketball Set to Open 2023-24 Season at Providence

Last Meeting vs. Providence: Nov. 25, 2022 - College of Idaho 86, Providence 80; College of Idaho leads all-time series, 1-0; 
The six-point victory for the Yotes matches the lowest margin of victory by an opponent in 2022-23 in the regular season as College of Idaho ended the season with a one-point victory in the semifinals and a two-point victory in the finals of the NAIA National Tournament.
WIN STREAKS BY THE NUMBERS:
  • 36 – on the season
    - College of Idaho ended the 2022-23 season on a 36-game winning streak after losing its first game of the season.
  • 11 - on the road
JUST WIN BABY:  With 36-straight wins, College of Idaho has the longest active winning streak in college basketball. 

SAME FACES but NEW NUMBERS:  Senior guard Johnny Radford is wearing #10 after spending the last three years at #5 and redshirt sophomore guard Bryan St. Clair has changed to #45 after wearing the #31 for the last two seasons.

LID LIFTERS: Since the 1933-34 season, the Coyotes have posted a 49-40 record in season openers. Last year's loss to Arizona Christian snapped an eight-game winning streak in the first contest of the season for the Yotes.

BENCH PLAY SUCCESS: A key part of the success for the Yotes in 2022-23 was the play of its reserves with the leader among all players in scoring (Johnny Radford - 12.9 ppg) and assists (Samaje Morgan - 4.8 apg) coming off the bench. Jake O'Neil led the team lead in rebounds (7.5 rpg). 

BLAINE SUCCESS: Colby Blaine became the first coach in program history to be named the Cascade Collegiate Conference Men's Basketball Coach of the Year on three occasions. He has led College of Idaho to 30 wins in the last five seasons with the exception of the CoVID season of 2020-21.

STATISTICAL RANKINGS in 2022-23:
  • 12.2 - 3rd - Rebound margin per game
  • 13.6 - 5th - Off rebounds per game
  • 63.7 - 5th - Points per game allowed
  • 86.3 - 6th - Points per game
  • 49.9% - 6th - Field goal percentage
  • 39.4% - 7th - Opponents' Field goal percentage
  • 17.5 - 8th - Assists per game
ACADEMIC HONORS: Drew Wyman became the first player in program history to pick up Academic All-American honor in 2022-23. The biomedical sciences major was just one of two sophomores in 2022-23 along with Tate Ivanyo of Anderson University across all levels of college men's basketball to receive this prestigious honor.

IS THERE AN AREA CODE? Senior guard Johnny Radford heads into his senior season with 170 3-pointers which ranks eighth in program history. Last season, Radford was just the fourth Yote to have made 100 3-pointers in a season (others: Neal Robertson - 124; Ben Riley - 106; Kade Wilson - 105). 

25-WIN SEASONS: The win over Bushnell last season on Feb. 11 secured the Coyotes their 14th 25-win season in program history. C of I has recorded 28 20-win season in program history and the eighth 20-win season in the last decade, while recording six 30-win seasons (1996, 2018, 2019, 2020, 2022 and 2023). 

JAM THE JAAC: College of Idaho led the NAIA with an average of a program best 1,494 fans at its home games in 2022-23. Since 2013-14, with the exception of the CoVID year of 2020-21, College of Idaho has averaged over 1,000 fans per home game.
