CALDWELL, Idaho – Visiting Vanguard shot 58% from the field on its way to a 94-67 win over No. 1 College of Idaho to end a 38-game winning streak for the Yotes.
Vanguard, who improves to 2-1, entered the contest after coming off a loss at Boise State in an exhibition on November 7 and the Yotes opponent on Saturday No. 21
Antelope Valley.
The Lions had five players in double figures including Jackson Larsen, who had 21 points. Cam'Ron Wilson had 17, Anthony Tello had 16, Phillip Willis and Bryson Metz each had 12.
College of Idaho, who falls to 2-1, had four players in double figures as
Samaje Morgan scored a team-high 15 in the defeat.
Jake O'Neil had his first double double of the season with 14 points and a game-high 15 rebounds.
Drew Wyman and
Straton Rogers had 11 and 10 points, respectively.
After Rogers put College of Idaho ahead 11-9 with 13:52 left in the opening, it was a 3-pointer by Wilson for Vanguard that put the visitors ahead for nearly the rest of the contest. With the game tied at 16 and for the second time in the game, the Lions went back in front on a jumper by Willis with just under 10 minutes left in the half. Vanguard used a 9-2 run to start the second half to push the lead by the Lions to double figures for the rest of the game.
Next, College of Idaho will take on Antelope Valley on Saturday at 7 p.m. in the final game of the Domino's Pizza Classic.
