College of Idaho Men's Basketball Returns to Winning Ways

CALDWELL, Idaho – One of the things about streaks is that they will end at some point. Friday night, the No. 1 College of Idaho men's basketball team saw many of its winning streaks end with the loss to Vanguard. Not wanting to lose consecutive games for the first time since the fourth and fifth games of the 2021-22 season, the Yotes came back with a 100-80 win over Antelope Valley on Saturday night.

College of Idaho (3-1) was led by Tyler Robinett, who scored 19 points to pace three in double figures. He was joined in double digits by Samaje Morgan and Johnny Radford, who added 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Antelope Valley also had three in double figures as Arik Nicholas had a game-high 27. Nicholas was joined in double figures by Michael Hayes and C.J. Robinson, who had 22 and 13, respectively.

With the game tied at 11, Robinett scored seven points in the first 4:20 of the game. He hit his first of three 3-pointers with 15:40 to play that put the host Yotes ahead 14-11. College of Idaho stayed in front for the remainder of the contest. The 3-pointer sparked the Yotes, who went on a 12-2 run to push the lead to 31-17 with 9:22 left in the first 20 minutes.

The Pioneers managed to cut the deficit to as little as six on three occasions. With a 37-31 lead and 5:26 left to play in the first half, College of Idaho scored 16 of the final 22 points on its way to a 53-37 lead at the break. Antelope Valley managed to get the lead down to as little as 15 on three occasions.

The second half saw College of Idaho lead for the remainder of the game and shoot 51.6% from the field. In the final 20 minutes, College of Idaho hit eight three pointers. For the game, the Yotes shot 14 3-pointers – the most since they made 15 on February 4, 2023 against Multnomah. College of Idaho hit the 100-point mark for the first time in the season and first time the contest against Monmouth on February 4, last year.
