Dillon, Mont. – The College of Idaho women's basketball lost by a 74-56 margin to No. 15 Rocky Mountain on Friday afternoon.
The Yotes (0-2) were paced by a 13-point effort from
Bryanna Graham, who knocked down three 3-pointers in the defeat.
Mia Austin came off the bench to score eight and
Darbi Avery added seven.
The Battlin Bears (1-0) were led by a 24-point day from Morgan Baird. Teammate Dominique Stephens recorded a double double with 17 points and 11 rebounds.
The first quarter saw both teams struggle to shoot from the field. College of Idaho shot 31.3% (5-for-16) and Rocky Mountain posted a 26.7% (4-for-15) effort as the two teams ended the first ten minutes tied at 12. The Battlin' Bears scored the first seven points of the second quarter to take a lead for the rest of the game.
Later in the second quarter, the Yotes cut the deficit to two including at 23-21 with 3:27 left when
Kylie Waltermeyer knocked down a jumper. Rocky Mountain answered the comeback effort with an 8-2 spurt to end the half for a 31-23 lead at the intermission.
An 11-4 run to start the second half by Rocky Mountain pushed the lead to double digits for the remainder of the contest. In the second 20 minutes, the Battlin' Bears shot 53.3% from the field and 87.5% from the free-throw line.
Next, College of Idaho will host The Master's on Thursday, Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. for the home opener. The contest between the two teams will be the first of three games in a five-day stretch for the Yotes. During that stretch, C of I will play at NNU on Friday, Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. and at Boise State on Monday, Nov. 6 at 6:30 p.m.
