MESA, Ariz. - The College of Idaho baseball team bounced back strong from a season opening loss, picking up a pair of wins over Oklahoma Panhandle State and Benedictine (Ariz.).
GAME 1
The Yotes quickly erased a 1-0 deficit to take a 5-1 lead on its way to a 15-5 win over OPSU.
In the second inning,
Ben Gaff started it off with an RBI single. Then, Matt Iwamizu brought in another run on a sacrifice fly. Following that up,
Tristen Garland doubled in a run to put College of Idaho ahead 3-1. A two-run home run by
Skyler Sadora in the fourth stretched the lead to 5-1. OPSU managed to cut the deficit to two, 5-3, when they scored twice in the fifth. Then, the Yotes outscored the Aggies, 10-2 including a five-run eighth and four-run ninth on its way to the win.
The Yotes offense pounded out 17 hits as Garland went a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs scored and four RBI in the win. Plus,Â
Skyler Sadora drove in four runs and
Kris Kirkpatrick contributed three hits to the win.Â

Luke Brewer struck out four in five innings of work on his way to his first win of the season.Â
GAME 2
The second game featured the Yotes and the Benedictine Redhawks. Benedictine would score first on an RBI single. The Yotes would counter that by scoring four in the second, let by a two-RBI triple from
Trevor Watkins, who would have a massive game, finishing with five RBI's.
Jonah Hultberg would follow up almost immediately, continuing his hitting streak by recording an RBI triple himself.
Ben Hansen would go 2-3 on the day while also contributing 2 RBI's. The bulk of the Yotes offense wasn't until the final frame, when the Yotes would strike for six runs led by a two-RBI single from Hansen.
Nate Vidlak would earn the first win of his young career, going two innings while striking out a pair.
Colby Durski picked up his first save of the season, going 2.2 innings while striking out three.
The Yotes will return to the diamond tomorrow to take on Embry-Riddle, with first pitch starting at 10 a.m.
