CALDWELL, Idaho - The College of Idaho baseball team was able to complete the four game sweep over conference foe Oregon Tech, winning the last two games of the series 7-4 and 6-1.
The story of day one of the series continued into day two, that being striking early. The scoring in game one started in the very first inning when
Alex McFarland-Smith hit a single to center field, scoring
Skyler Sadora. Sadora then drove in a run of his own with a single to center, driving in
Jonah Hultberg.
The Hultberg - Sadora combo at the top of the lineup was the real story in game one. The pair combined for six hits in eight plate appearances, along with four RBI's, that lead the Yotes to a third consecutive victory.
Tanner Leaf also caught fire in game one, going 2-3.
For the Owls in game one, it was another multi-homerun game for the team, knocking two balls over the fence. Dalton Daily continued to show his power in the Owls lineup, contributing two hits including a homerun.
Luke Brewer and
Colby Durski each went four innings on the mound for the Yotes, both having solid performances. Durski was tabbed with the win after going four innings, allowing four hits and striking out one batter.
Game two for the Yotes was no different, as the offense caught fire early. The Yotes jumped out to a quick 3-1 lead in the bottom of the first inning, and that massive first inning propelled them to the win. The first inning saw eight C of I players come up to the plate on three hits and three runners left on base.
For the Owls, their scoring started when the second batter of the contest, Kaleb Keelean singled to left, driving in Matt Ortiz, which accounted for the only OIT run of the ballgame.
On the mound, it was simply a masterful performance from the Yotes pitchers. Game four starter
Andrew Vaughn went a season-long six innings, allowing only four hits and one run while striking out seven Owl batters. After Vaughn's performance,
Ben Gaff entered the game and shut down the opposition, going three innings without allowing a hit and striking out two.
Up next for the Yotes is a road trip at Bushnell next week, with the next home contest coming against Corban on April 9th.
