Yotes Baseball Takes First Two from OIT

CALDWELL, Idaho - The College of Idaho baseball team delivered strong performances to take the first two games of the weekend series with Oregon Tech. The Yotes were led in both games by dominant outings on the mound from the starting pitchers.

In game one, the Yotes got off to a hot start early, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning, thanks to RBI's from Weston Miller, Tristen Garland, and Dillon Danner. The top of the Yotes lineup continued to be productive, as Jonah Hultberg, Skyler Sadora, and Alex McFarland-Smith each contributed two hits out of the 10 team hits.

For the Owls in the first game, their offense was led by Mitchel Swanson who went 3-4, as well as Dalton Daily and Ian Peters, each contributing to the Owls with solo shots.

On the mound, it was an impressive showing from Connor Root. The junior pitcher went eight strong innings, allowing three earned runs and striking out seven Owl batters. Root held the top of the Owl lineup to a combined 1-13 from the plate in the first game of the series.

Game two saw the Yotes get off to another quick start, driving in three of their four runs in the first two innings. After a leadoff double from Jonah Hultberg in the bottom of the first inning, Ben Dudley was able to drive him home with a single to left field. The second inning saw Ben Gaff drive in two runs on a 2 RBI single to left which made the score 3-1.

For the Owl bats in the second game, they were led by Ian Peters. The designated hitter went 3-4 with the lone OIT RBI. Matt Ortiz also contributed to the hit total.

The second game was all about Dimick Wood. He went eight strong innings, only surrendering three hits and one run, striking out five Owls in the process.

Next up for the Yotes is the finale of the weekend series with Oregon Tech, playing a doubleheader on Sunday starting at 11 a.m. at Wolfe Field.
