Vancouver, British Columbia – Host University of British Columbia scored an unearned run in the seventh inning to post a 1-0 win over College of Idaho on Sunday.
College of Idaho (14-17, 2-2 CCC) had an opportunity to take the lead in the fifth inning that was erased by a double play by the host Thunderbirds to keep the contest scoreless.
University of British Columbia (14-15, 2-2 CCC) pushed across the winning run in the bottom of the seventh. After an error by C of I, with one out, put a runner on the base paths for the Thunderbirds. Then, a passed ball moved Trent Lenihan into scoring position on a passed ball. Next, a deep fly out moved the Thunderbirds' pinch runner to third and a hit-by-pitch put runners on the corners for Noah Or, who singled to right field to score what proved to be the game-winning run.
C of I was limited to just three hits, including doubles by
Jonah Hultberg and
Trevor Watkins in the loss.
Ben Gaff was the tough-luck loser for the 'Yotes, who pitched the final two innings as he falls to 1-5. UBC used three pitchers, including relievers Adam Khan and Sam Van Snellenberg for the final three innings. Khan pitched two innings of one-hit relief for the win. And Snellenberg pitched a scoreless ninth for his first save.
Next, C of I will come back to Wolfe Field to host Oregon Tech for a four-game series that gets underway with a 1 p.m. doubleheader on Saturday, March 26.
