Dudley Goes Deep Twice in 10-5 Loss to LCSC

CALDWELL, Idaho – A four-run third and ninth inning led visiting Lewis & Clark State to a 10-5 win in the series finale over College of Idaho at Wolfe Park on Sunday.

College of Idaho (12-14) got on the board in the bottom of the first with a three-run home run by Ben Dudley for the early lead. Dudley finished the day, hitting a pair of home runs as he went 3-for-5 with two runs scored and four RBI to pace a six-hit attack for the Coyotes in the loss.

His third inning home run tied the game at 4 and is the first C of I player to hit multiple home runs in a game since Jonah Hultberg hit a pair earlier this season on February 5 against Central Washington. It is the first time since the 2016 season that the Coyotes have had multiple players hit multiple home runs in a game.

LCSC (26-1) had its first of two four run innings in the third en route to the win. Three of the four runs in the third came around on a three-run home run by Luke White that put the visitors ahead.

After the solo shot by Dudley for C of I tied the game at 4 in the third, the Warriors went back ahead on a two-run blast by Coy Stout in the fourth.

C of I cut the deficit to one when Weston Miller singled in Jake Denison to make it a 6-5 contest. LCSC scored four more in the top of the ninth for the final margin.

The Coyotes starting pitcher Ben Gaff pitched five innings, allowing six runs (all earned) in the loss to fall to 1-3. LCSC reliever Alec Holmes threw the final four innings, allowing two hits and striking out five for the win.

Next, the Coyotes will travel to Vancouver, British Columbia for a four-game series against the Thunderbirds. The series starts with a single game on Friday, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday and another single game on Sunday.
