Vancouver, British Columbia – The College of Idaho baseball team rallied from a 6-0 deficit to post an 8-7 win over host University of British Columbia on Friday night.
The Coyotes (12-15) spread 12 among eight-different players including a top four in the order, who went 8-for-15 with five runs and six RBI to spark the come-from-behind win. All four of the batters in the top of the order had multiple hits including
Jonah Hultberg,
Skyler Sadora,
Alex McFarland-Smith and Bend Dudley. Sadora and Dudley had three and two RBIs in the win.
Relievers
Colby Durski and
Erik Wisenor pitched the final 2.2 innings in the where they allowed just two hits and a run (which was earned). Wisenor closed the door on the win to raise his record to 2-1.
The Thunderbirds (12-13) were led by a three-hit game by Noah Or in the loss. UBC used four pitchers including Brett Corbeth, who tossed the final inning where he allowed three hits, three runs (three earned) and walked a pair in the loss to fall to 0-4.
A RBI double by Dudley in the sixth cut into the UBC lead before the seventh inning saw C of I plate three runs on four hits as nine batters came to the plate. Sadora delivered a two-RBI hit with the bases loaded and C of I plated its third on run on a wild pitch by the Thunderbirds.
Down 7-5 in the ninth, C of I tied the game when Dudley delivered a two-RBI double with the bases loaded to begin the inning. Then, he came around to score as
Jake Denison recorded a double into the gap in right-center field to put the visitors ahead for the first time of the night.
The Thunderbirds mounted a late threat before Wisenor shut the door on the game with a strikeout looking.
Next, the series will continue on Saturday with a doubleheader at 1 p.m. (PST)/2 p.m. (MST).
