LEWISTON, Idaho – College of Idaho senior
Riley Frith scored a season-high 14 points on the strength of a season-high three 3-pointers in a 60-53 loss to No. 10 LC State on Saturday evening.
College of Idaho (8-5, 3-4 CCC) went back and forth with the nationally-ranked Warriors throughout the contest. Despite the loss, Frith was joined in double figures by sophomore
Taryn Riley, who added 10 points. Seniors
Sienna Riggle and
Lexi Mitchell added nine and seven points, respectively. Mitchell also had a team-high 13 rebounds and four assists in the loss.
Lewis-Clark State (12-1, 7-0 CCC) was paced by a double double from Maddie Holm, who had a pair of game-high efforts with 21 points and 14 rebounds. Sara Muelhausen added 13 rebounds and seven points, plus Ellie Sander added eight points and five rebounds in the win.
College of Idaho led by six, 16-10, after the first 10 minutes but Lewis-Clark State scored eight of the first nine points of the second quarter to take an 18-17 lead. Later in the contest, the Yotes were down by four, 29-25 with 8:40 left to play in the third quarter when Frith hit her third 3-pointer of the game that sparked seven unanswered points by the visitors to put College of Idaho ahead 30-29 with 7:30 left in the quarter.
Later in the quarter, LC State went back in front on a layup by Muehlhausen that gave the host Warriors ahead 35-34 with 3:00 left in the quarter. Twice in the final quarter, College of Idaho was able to cut the deficit to one in hopes of pulling off a comeback.
Next, College of Idaho comes back home for a pair of games to start 2023 with a contest against Evergreen State on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Northwest on Saturday at 3 p.m.
