CALDWELL, Idaho - The College of Idaho men's soccer team took on the Rocky Mountain Battlin' Bears on Friday, coming out on top by a score of 2-1.
Both teams entered Friday's contest with identical records, both overall and in conference play, and it was a tough battle all night long.
Jorge Fernandez got the scoring started, tallying a goal in the 13th minute off an assist by
Caio Pereira. The 1-0 lead would hold into the halftime break.
The next goal of the game came in the 74th minute, as
Eric Hornung was able to score off an assist by
Joao Bastos to make the game 2-0. The Battlin' Bears were able to answer back 11 minutes later, as Igor Soares scored to make the game 2-1, which would hold to be the final.
"Rocky is a difficult team to prepare for," said head coach
Thom Baker. "Two classy finishes and a solid team defensive effort. This is a big step towards our playoff goals."
Up next for the Yotes is a matchup on homecoming, taking on Providence with a kickoff time slated for 8 p.m.
