McCoy and Record Setting Yotes Defense Helps Lead College of Idaho to 31-20 Road Win Over Carroll

Helena, Montana - Wide receiver Jon Schofield took a pair of direct snaps for touchdowns and a stifling defense that picked up 15 tackles for loss with a school record nine sacks sparked a ground game for No. 11 College of Idaho in a 31-20 win over host No. 24 Carroll in a constant downpour on Saturday afternoon in Helena.

"I just love the resiliency," said College of Idaho head coach Mike Moroski. "We've been a second half team all year (College of Idaho is outscoring its opponents by a 114-32 in the second half). Obviously, the spark plug was the big pass to Brock Richardson. Sometimes, in games like this, it's the first play of the drive when you have the driest ball. I thought the defensive onslaught was really good. I thought we got free for some key sacks and kept them from getting on track."

College of Idaho (5-0, 5-0 Frontier) shut down the Carroll offense, limiting the host Saints to a school record minus 15 yards on the ground. Plus, they outgained Carroll for the contest by a 302-to-203 margin with Allamar Alexander leading the Yotes ground game with 129 yards on 25 carries with a touchdown. Making his second start of the season – his first since the season opener against MSU Northern - Ryan Hibbs threw a touchdown pass and 105 yards after being called into starting duties.

Keagan McCoy led a College of Idaho defense, who had nine sacks, with a school record five sacks on his way to 11 tackles for the contest. It is the fourth game with multiple sacks in a game for McCoy. The nine sacks by the Yotes defense are the most since a 10-sack effort against Rocky Mountain on September 28, 2019.

Carroll (3-2, 3-2 Frontier), who had won the last three meetings in Helena, was paced by a 16-for-28 and three touchdown effort by quarterback Jack Prka.

Down 13-7, the College of Idaho offense came back with a 68-yard touchdown pass from Hibbs connected with Brock Richardson to go along with a Spencer Fiske PAT put the visitors back in front by a 14-13 margin. The ensuing possession by the Saints saw the visitors defense led by defensive ends Hunter Eborn and McCoy rack up back to-back tackles for loss to give the ball back to the offense.

Jon Schofield
Jon Schofield became the third-different Yote with two rushing TDs in a game with a two-touchdown effort in the 31-20 win over Carroll.

After a second three-n-out by the defense, the offense went to work behind its offensive line and its one-two running back tandem of Hunter Gilbert and Alexander.
The Yotes moved the ball down the field on a six play, 43-yard drive that saw Alexander find the end zone on a 22-yard touchdown run to stretch the lead to 21-13.
Again, the defense was a menace to the Saints with McCoy forcing a fumble and Alex Ojukwu picking it up to give the ball back to College of Idaho. A 23-yard field goal by Fiske for the Yotes put the lead at 24-13.

The defense came away with its fourth three-n-out of the game and after a 25-yard pass and catch by Hibbs to Richardson along with a facemask penalty on the Saints set the stage for first and goal for the visitors. Two plays later, Schofield called his own number for his second touchdown of the day to put the visitors ahead 31-13 with 11:19 left in the game. The Saints added a late touchdown for the final margin.

Next, College of Idaho comes back to Caldwell for a homecoming tilt on October 8 at 1 p.m. where they will face a nationally-ranked Montana Tech squad at Simplot Stadium.
