GULF SHORES, Ala. –
Caleb Brown sits in 12th-place overall after Day 1 of the decathlon at the NAIA Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships inside Mickey Miller Blackwell Stadium.
Brown recorded 3,189 points through five events – nearly 250 points out of the running for All-America stadium. He tied for the win in the high jump (1.94 meters / 6 feet, 4.25 inches), while adding marks of 12.20 seconds in the 100-meters, 6.07 meters in the long jump, 11.11 meters in the shot put and 53.21 seconds in the 400-meters.
On the track,
Lane Maher failed to qualify for Friday's finals in the 400-meter hurdles, placing 25th overall with his time of 56.40 seconds.
In the field events, both
Zach Rickard and
Bryan Terry competed in the hammer throw – Rickard placing 30th overall with his second preliminary mark of 49.44 meters (162 feet, 2 inches), while Terry fouled on all three of his attempts.
