LA GRANDE, Ore. – Cascade Conference Athlete of the Meet
Larissa Mauer capped an amazing weekend with her third individual championship, leading The College of Idaho to the team title at the CCC Championships, presented by U.S. Bank, at Banner Bank Track.
The Yotes finished the 2-day meet with 244 team points – recording their seventh all-time CCC title, the most by any team in league history. Eastern Oregon placed second (199.5), with Southern Oregon in third (125).
Mauer, less than 24 hours after winning the 3,000-meter steeplechase and 10,000-meters, dominated the 5,000-meters by 14 seconds, claiming the title in a time of 17:58.28. C of I scored 30 points in the event, as Ellyse Tinglestad placed second (18:12.19),
Sage Martin took fourth (18:54.51),
Chaye Uptmor took fifth (19:15.88) and
Erin Moyer placed sixth (19:22.47).
"After running the steeple and 10K yesterday, Larissa told me she wanted the triple," said head coach
Austin Basterrechea, who was honored as CCC Coach of the Year. "She went after it and put forth an amazing effort. What a great weekend for the Yotes."
Abbey Shirts earned All-CCC honors with a bronze medal effort in the 800-meters (2:17.80), while
Jessica Dorohov picked up key points in the sprints, clocking times of 12.27 seconds in the 100-meters and 25.40 seconds in the 200-meters.
AaLea Kolb punched her ticket to the NAIA Championships with a second-place effort in the discus (44.15 meters / 144 feet, 10 inches) – hitting the NAIA "A" standard.
Sophi Clay also earned All-CCC honors, taking third in the triple jump with a personal best mark of 11.35 meters (37 feet, 3 inches).
C of I will close out the season in two weeks at the NAIA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Gulf Shores, Ala.
