2021 Track & Field Midseason Notebook

COMING UP: at Sam Adams Invitational (Spokane, Wash.), Saturday, 2 p.m. (PDT)
 
SCHEDULE UPDATES: The Coyotes look to add a pair of meets to their 2021 outdoor schedule between the Raider Invitational on April 23-24 and the Cascade Conference Championships, set for May 14-15. C of I and Eastern Oregon look to host a meet in La Grande on May 1, while the following week, the Yotes will host a Last Chance Meet at Caldwell High – the date/time still to be determined.
 
RECORD BREAKERS: It has been a record-setting season so far for the C of I track and field team, as three outdoor records have fallen by the wayside in the first month of the year, coming at the heels of five new indoor marks being established. At the Jenn Boyman Classic – both hammer throw marks were shattered, as Catylynn Duff unleashed a throw of 174 feet, 10 inches, while Zach Rickard launched a mark of 177 feet, 7 inches. At the Whitworth Invite, Bryan Terry broke the shot put record with his heave of 51 feet. During the indoor season, Lane Maher (60-meter hurdles), Terry (weight throw), Stephen Campbell (shot put), Morgan Harrison (high jump) and Duff (weight throw) all established new C of I records.
 
CONFERENCE LEADERS: A total of 13 different C of I athletes rank among the Top-3 in their respective events in the Cascade Conference – including eight No. 1 marks in the league. On the track, Kiersten Lancaster (No. 1 in 100-hurdles and 400-hurdles), Lane Maher (No. 1 in 400-hurdles, No. 2 in 110-hurdles) and Payton Durocher (No. 2 in 400) hold Top-3 marks, while in the jumps, Morgan Harrison (No. 1 in high jump), Devyn Morris (No. 1 in triple jump), Brinley Reed (No. 2 in long jump) and Kade Setoki (No. 3 in long jump) are among the CCC's top athletes. In the throws, both Catylynn Duff (No. 1 in hammer, No. 2 in shot put, No. 3 in discus) and Bryan Terry (No. 1 in shot put and discus, No. 3 in hammer) rank in three different events, with Stephen Campbell (No. 2 in shot put and discus), Zach Rickard (No. 2 in hammer), Brad Cushman (No. 3 in shot put) and Robin Camp (No. 3 in shot put) also in the Top-3.
 
NAIA TOP-20 MARKS: Catylynn Duff – No. 4 in hammer throw; Kiersten Lancaster – No. 5 in 400-meter hurdles, No. 8 in 100-meter hurdles; Caleb Brown – No. 6 in decathlon; Morgan Harrison – No. 9 in high jump; Zach Rickard – No. 14 in hammer throw; Bryan Terry – No. 18 in shot put and hammer throw; Stephen Campbell – No. 19 in shot put.
 
QUALIFIERS: The following are qualifiers for the postseason – all NAIA A/B qualifiers have also met the standard for the Cascade Conference Championships. NAIA "A" (Automatic) – Kiersten Lancaster (100-meter hurdles, 400-meter hurdles), Catylynn Duff (hammer throw), Bryan Terry (hammer throw), Zach Rickard (hammer throw). NAIA "B" (Provisional) – Morgan Harrison (high jump), Lane Maher (110-meter hurdles), Terry (shot put), Stephen Campbell (shot put), Caleb Brown (decathlon). OFF TO SPOKANE: The Yotes will make their second trip of the season to Spokane, Wash., competing this weekend at the Sam Adams Classic, hosted by Whitworth University. Weather at the meet is expected to be ideal, temperatures in the 70s with light wind.
