CALDWELL, Idaho – Two school records were tied or broken by the College of Idaho men's track team, as the Yotes closed out Day 2 of the C of I Icebreaker #1 at Caldwell High School.
Bryan Terry had a big day in the throws, sweeping both the weight throw and the shot put – hitting the former NAIA national qualifying marks in the process. Terry surpassed Josh Brown's weight throw school record with his mark of 17.30 meters (56 feet, 9 inches) – the No. 15 mark in the NAIA this season – while winning the shot put with a heave of 15.57 meters (51 feet, 1 inch).
The NAIA changed the qualification process for the Indoor Championships due to the COVID-19 pandemic as a way to limit field sizes for physical distancing. Instead of automatic and provisional marks, the Top-16 marks in each discipline will earn a bid to the meet in Yankton, S.D.
In the 60-meter hurdles, true freshman
Lane Maher improved his time from the preliminary rounds by nearly three-tenths of a second, winning with a time of 8.51 seconds – tying
Mike Hurd's school record from eight years ago.
In the heptathlon, Kendrick Caldwell,
Caleb Brown and
Nate Griswold all had an outstanding second day – Caldwell finishing second (4,509), Brown third (4,418) and Griswold fourth (4,303). Griswold had a quality 9.06 second time in the 60-meter hurdles, Brown and Caldwell each cleared 3.80 meters in the pole vault, with Brown logging the top 1,000-meter time by the Yotes (2:54.83).
In the sprints,
Declan Friedli led C of I with a 60-meter time of 7.25 seconds, while
Kade Setoki led the squad in the 200-meters (22.91). Setoki also had a great day in the long jump, recording a mark of 6.70 meters (21 feet 11.25 inches).
C of I will take next weekend off before hosting the Ice Breaker #2 at Northwest Nazarene on Feb. 19-20.
