KEIZER, Ore. – Corban University broke out of a season-long slump, combining for 23 runs in a doubleheader sweep of The College of Idaho at Volcanoes Stadium.
The Warriors (3-11, 2-0) hung on for an 8-5 win in the opener, while using a 7-run fifth inning to earn a 16-9 win in Game 2.
C of I (8-9, 0-2) took a 3-0 lead in the second inning of Game 1, as
Ben Dudley and
Carter Vieira each had RBI singles, but Corban regained the lead with a 5-run fifth and took a 8-4 lead into the ninth. The Yotes rallied, loading the bases with two outs and
Austin Van Horne plated a run with a bases-loaded walk. However, a strikeout by Warriors closer Jackson Arnsdorf to secure the win.
Jonah Hultberg went 2-for-5 and Dudley went 2-for-4 in the loss.
Game 2 was all Corban, as the Warriors built an 8-0 lead after four innings and a 3-run Kyle Clay double capped the big fifth inning rally to extend the lead to 15-2.
Weston Miller had two hits and three RBI,
Dillon Danner had two hits and two RBI and
Anthony Pannullo had two doubles and two RBI in the loss.
The two teams close out the weekend series tomorrow with an 11 a.m. (PT) doubleheader.
