EUGENE, Ore. –
Drew Wyman showed the fans in the Morse Event Center why he was the 2021 Montana Gatorade Player of the Year, scoring a career-high 23 points – including huge baskets in crunch time, as The College of Idaho rallied to top Bushnell University, 81-76, in overtime.
Wyman collected a three-quarter court alley-oop pass and knocked home the five footer at the buzzer to force overtime and added back-to-back buckets inside the final three minutes of the extra session, helping the No. 18 ranked Yotes (11-3, 5-1 CCC) extend their win streak to four.
The Beacons (4-9, 2-4) rallied from an 11-point first half deficit behind Stevie Schlabach, who scored 21 of his game-high 35 points in the second half. After Wyman had tied the score at 66-all with 30 seconds left, BU got a driving lay-up from Luke Smith to take the lead inside the final five seconds.
Ivory Miles-Williams inbounded the ball to
Caden Handran who launched a pass from the Beacons free throw line to the waiting Wyman, who caught the heave and touched home the equalizer as the horn sounded.
C of I never trailed in overtime, as two buckets each from Miles-Williams and Wyman, followed by a
Ricardo Time 15-foot jumper, gave the Yotes a 78-72 lead with a minute left and the defense did the rest.
The Coyotes survived despite a rough shooting night, missing their final 14 3-point attempts and converting just 24-percent of their second half field goals. C of I came through when it mattered, making 6-of-8 shots in the overtime period.
Wyman added a season-high nine rebounds, while recording his sixth-straight double-digit scoring game. Time scored 13 points and
Johnny Radford added 12 points off the bench for the victors, with Miles-Williams tallying nine. Handran scored four points with five assists and four steals.
C of I committed a season-low five turnovers in the victory, while forcing 17 BU miscues – turning into 19 points.
The Yotes close out the road trip tomorrow, opening 2022 with a 5 p.m. (PT) match-up at Corban University.
