CALDWELL, Idaho – College of Idaho point-forward
Ivory Miles-Williams grew up in the backyard of Lewis-Clark State, playing prep games inside the LCSC Activity Center. Tonight, the Lapwai product torched his hometown team, posting season highs with 19 points and eight rebounds, as the No. 18-ranked Yotes toppled the 17th-ranked Warriors, 69-55, inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.
The fifth-year senior scored 10-straight points in the second half, as the Coyotes (10-3, 4-1 CCC) held off a late rally from LC – ending a 3-game losing streak to their in-state rivals. Miles-Williams finished 9-of-11 from the field, as the Yotes picked up their first Top-25 win of the year.
C of I started slowly, making just three of their first 13 shots, as the Warriors (10-2, 4-1) had an 11-7 lead eight minutes into the game. The Yotes flipped the switch, making 8-straight field goals – as Miles-Williams converted three inside baskets and
Drew Wyman added a lay-up and a 3-pointer, part of a 16-2 run that gave the hosts a 31-20 lead.
The Coyotes extended the lead to 50-34 midway through the second half on 3-pointer from
Jake O'Neil as the shot clock expired. LC would claw back, as a 4-point play from Khalil Stevenson cut the deficit to single-digits.
Miles-Williams did the rest – converting inside baskets on four consecutive possessions, adding a 12-foot one-handed runner with two minutes left to give C of I a 60-51 lead. The Yotes closed the game by making 9-of-12 free throws to complete the win.
C of I held LCSC 38 points under their season scoring average – holding the Warriors to 31-percent shooting – while posting a 49-36 rebound edge.
Wyman scored a career-high 19 points, with
Charles Elzie adding nine points off the bench and
Tyler Robinett posting five points and 10 rebounds.
Kevin Baker led LC with 20 points and seven rebounds, with Oreon Courtney scoring nine points with six rebounds.
C of I will have next weekend off for the Holidays, before traveling to Oregon for games New Year's Eve at Bushnell and New Year's Day at Corban.
