BUTTE, Mont. –
Derek Wadsworth was a perfect 8-of-8 from the field, scoring a career-high 23 points, as The College of Idaho held on down the stretch for a 62-59 victory over Montana Tech inside the HPER Complex.
The No. 24-ranked Yotes (3-0) ran their win streak against Tech to 10 – holding their third straight opponent to 60 points or fewer to start the year.
The Orediggers (3-2) used an 8-0 midway through the second half to take a 49-46 lead on a Caleb Bellach 3-pointer – but Wadsworth rallied the Yotes. The senior converted a 3-point play and followed it with a long 3-pointer, part of a 10-point C of I run, as the visitors led 56-47 with five minutes left in the game.
Tech had one last rally, as a Camdyn Larance triple capped a 9-0 run that evened the score at 56-56. C of I proved to be too much – as
Caden Handran gave the Yotes the lead with a lay-up and
Ivory Miles-Williams followed with an inside basket, with Wadsworth sealing the victory with two late free throws.
Wadsworth connected on all four of his 3-point attempts, while becoming just the third C of I player in program history to make eight field goals or more without a miss.
Both Treasure State products had big nights for the victors, as
Drew Wyman scored 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting and Handran scored four points and a team-high nine rebounds. Miles-Williams added six points and six rebounds in 20 minutes of action.
Bellach, a Montana State transfer, led Tech with 23 points.
C of I closes out the trip tomorrow, meeting No. 10-ranked Carroll at 5 p.m.
