BILLINGS, Mont. – College of Idaho completed a 4-point trip to Montana, using a second half goal to force extra time and battling to a 2-2 draw with Rocky Mountain College at Wendy's Field.
The Yotes (6-2-1, 4-2-1 CCC), who earned a forfeit win yesterday over Providence, got goals from
Kristian Quiros and
Vitor Matos on the wet afternoon.
After waiting over 30 minutes for the match to begin due to a shortage of officials, C of I struck first in the 29th minute – as
Caio Pereira played a pretty ball to the top of the 18, with Quiros slotting home the counter and the 1-0 lead.
The Battlin' Bears (5-3-3, 2-3-2) answered with two unassisted goals in the final 15 minutes of the period to take the lead. Zach Wall took advantage of a defensive mistake in the 31st minute, converting a 1-on-1 opportunity to tie the score, while just before the break, Milo Downey ripped a 18-yard one-timer into the top right shelf.
C of I pulled even in the 68th minute, as following a foul outside the box – Quiros quick played the restart while RMC was setting up their wall, finding Matos in the area and slotting home the equalizer.
The Yotes would not have a shot attempt in either overtime period, with C of I turning away all nine Rocky corner kick chances.
Both teams took eight shots in the contest, with neither keeper – C of I's
Zac Dean and Rocky's Ryan Cornwall – making a save.
C of I returns home next weekend, hosting Southern Oregon and Oregon Tech.
