OLYMPIA, Wash. - Two second half goals by the College of Idaho were the difference maker in a 2-0 win over Evergreen at Black Hills High School Friday afternoon.
With the win, the Yotes (9-4-1, 7-4-1 CCC) clinched a spot in the Cascade Conference Championships for the second time in the last three seasons.
C of I controlled the majority of the first half with an 11-0 shot advantage and 5-1 corner kick edge, but the Geoducks (5-8-2, 5-5-2 CCC) kept the game scoreless through 45 minutes thanks to eight saves from goalkeeper Colin Hauser.
In the 68th minute, a cross to the back post by Caio Pereria found
Emil Powles' head to get his third goal of the season and put the Yotes up 1-0.
Evergreen had nine shots in the second half to get back in the game, with their best chance coming in the 74th minute that was deflected away by C of I goalkeeper
Zac Dean.
In the 83rd minute, a
Joao Bastos cross forced Hauser to make a diving save to his left, but a back post run by J.J Osuna created a tap-in goal to double the lead.
Hauser finished the game with 16 saves, while Dean had two saves to get his second straight shutout.
C of I had a 28-9 shot advantage and led 12-3 in corner kicks.
The Yotes conclude regular season action tomorrow against Northwest in Kirkland, Wash. Kickoff is set for 12:30 p.m. (PT)
