CALDWELL, Idaho - Nine different College of Idaho players scored goals in the Coyotes biggest offensive explosion in 18 years, a 9-0 win over Walla Walla University at rainy Simplot Stadium Friday afternoon.
Â
The Yotes (7-4-1, 5-4-1 CCC) got on the board just five minutes into the match after an
Alexius Westlund pass found
Kristian Quiros to put C of I up 1-0.
Â
The Wolves (0-11-1, 0-10 CCC) held on for a majority of the first half thanks to three big saves from goalkeeper Diego Molina to keep the Yotes at bay.
Â
C of I, however, would double the lead after an intercepted pass in the midfield found
Vitor Matos on a solo run and shot in the 32nd minute. 11 minutes later,
Liam Kelly would add to the scoresheet after a
Lucas Thorne pass in the penalty box helped Kelly bury his second goal of the season.
Â
In a span of 13 minutes, C of I rallied off five goals in the second half. After a
Caio Pereira goal in the 46th minute,
Zach Flannery would find his first collegiate goal in the 48th minute after a
Ben Garrick cross found Flannery at the back post. Garrick,
Bernardo Zanatta and
J.J. Osuna also found goals to put the game out of reach for the Wolves.
Â
In the 89th minute, C of I would put the final nail in the coffin with a
Mario Ruiz shot to get his first collegiate goal.
Â
In a game that saw 26 Coyote players, C of I outshot Walla Walla 27-6 and had a 7-3 corner kick edge.
Â
The Yotes return to action on Sunday for Senior Day against Carroll at 11 a.m.
