CALDWELL, Idaho - After an overwhelmingly successful first year of the Legacy Program in 2019-20, College of Idaho men's basketball head coach
Colby Blaine has announced the return of the program once again this season.
Students from all of the Caldwell elementary schools have been active contributors in their community over the past two years, giving back in the form of volunteer hours and earning free tickets to a game and a Legacy Driven wristband for their efforts. The support of Idaho Central Credit Union has been instrumental in the immediate success of the program.
"We are thrilled to begin our third year of the Legacy Program with our Caldwell elementary schools," Blaine said. "We enjoyed visiting each of the six schools over the last week and are impressed with the excitement the kids had for the program. This program provides our team a great avenue to connect with our local youth while also spreading our team message of being Legacy Driven. We know that when we are consumed with helping others and don't worry about the wins and losses, good things happen for us. With these youngsters on our team this year we can make a major impact in our community."
For their efforts, each of the students will be invited to attend a Yotes game inside the J.A. Albertson Activities Center with their classmates who also completed their hours. These students will be recognized on the floor prior to C of I taking on their opponent for the night.
"Two years ago we saw over 600 kids complete their volunteer hours and attend our home basketball games. Their impact in the community was priceless and their energy at our games was a key factor in leading us to wins. We are eager to beat our record and have more kids complete the program this year. And even more important, we are excited to have the kids return to the Activities Center and watch the Yotes play!"
The Coyotes open the 2021-22 season next Friday, hosting the 35th-annual Taco Bell Shoot-Out.
