SAN DIEGO, Calif. – Pitchers from San Diego Christian and Baker University limited College of Idaho hitters to just nine total hits on the day, as the Coyotes dropped a pair of games at Morley Park.
SDCC (7-4) rallied from an early deficit to defeat C of I, 5-4, while Baker topped the Yotes, 4-0, in the afternoon match-up.
The Coyotes (2-10) used a 3-run third inning in Game 1 to take a lead – taking advantage of a 2-out RBI single from
Jonah Hultberg and a 2-run single from
Ryan Nolan. The Hawks answered with four runs with two outs in the bottom of the inning – stringing together three straight hits – to take the lead.
Trailing 5-3 in the seventh, C of I loaded the bases with one out – scoring a run on a wild pitch – but were unable to get the tying run home from third.
Hultberg and Nolan each had two hits for the Yotes, with reliever
Silas Shumate throwing three-plus innings of hitless relief, striking out four.
Game 2 was dominated by the Wildcats (1-3) Dalton Dultmeier, who tossed a 2-hit shutout – not allowing a C of I runner to reach third base. BU scored two unearned runs in the third inning and added single tallies in the fifth and sixth frames to put the game away.
Hultberg and Nolan had the lone C of I hits, with reliever
Jared Bowman striking out five in two-plus innings of relief.
C of I and Baker close out the weekend with a 10 a.m. (PT) series finale on Sunday.
