SAN DIEGO, Calif. –
Jonah Hultberg had five hits on the afternoon and
Weston Miller had two doubles and three RBI in today's nightcap, as the College of Idaho opened their trip to the Pacific Coast with a split of games at Morley Park.
The Coyotes (2-8) dropped a tight 3-1 decision to host San Diego Christian in Game 1, before rallying for a 9-6 win over Baker (Kan.) in the evening game.
C of I trailed the Wildcats (0-2), 4-2, after two innings in Game 2, but grabbed the lead in the third – as Miller ripped a two-run double to tie the score and
Carter Vieira gave the Yotes the lead with a sacrifice fly.
Ryan Nolan extended the lead to 7-4 in the fourth with a two-run single, with a Miller 2-out, RBI double in the sixth providing insurance.
Connor Root earned the win, working around six runs and 10 hits, with
Nick Kindred getting the final five outs to earn his first save. Nolan went 3-for-4 and Hultberg went 3-for-5 in the victory.
In the morning game, the Yotes took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, as Miller was hit by a pitch with the bases-loaded. However, C of I could not take advantage of runners in scoring position in the second, third and fourth innings.
SDCC (5-4) scored all of their runs in the fourth inning, taking advantage of a C of I error and two timely hits – including a Josh LaMonte go-ahead RBI single – to grab the lead. The Hawks used seven pitchers in the victory, while
Dimick Wood tossed a complete game six-hitter for C of I, striking out six, in the loss.
The Coyotes will play the same two teams tomorrow – meeting San Diego Christian at 9 a.m. (PT) and Baker at 3 p.m. (PT)
